Cucumber: High content of minerals

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus)is an important and popular vegetable of the Cucurbitaceae family. It is reported to be one of the earliest vegetables to be cultivated by man as far back as 5000 years ago. Its high moisture content (about 95%) makes it ideal to promote hydration.

In central Asia, people drink cucumber juice on warm days to help cool their body. Cucumber juice in the diet is one of the best favorable juices to improve and maintain healthy skin, nails and hair, weight loss, high blood pressure, acne, eczema, to dissolve kidney stone etc.

Study has shown that cucumber seeds were a good source of minerals and contained calcium. Minerals found in cucumbers are potassium, magnesium which is useful in regulating blood pressure. The body needs calcium to maintain strong bones and to carry out many important functions.

Cucumber has high water content of about 95% and containing important electrolytes, cucumbers can help prevent dehydration during the hot summer months or during and after a workout. Its rind also has high potassium and magnesium which help to relax nerves and muscle and keeps blood circulating smoothly.
