Onion juice for diabetes

The term diabetes mellitus describes a metabolic disorder of multiple aetiology characterized by chronic hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar) with disturbances of carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action or both.

There has been a growing interest in alternative therapies, including the use of plant foods such as onion to treat diabetic patients. Onion (Allium cepa L.) is a bulbous herb belonging to the vegetable family Alliceae, and and is so often treated as a single household vegetable. A. cepa has been used medicinally for hundreds of years.

Onion is known to have the richest sources of flavonoids and organosulfur compounds that possess strong antioxidant activities. There are multiple flavonoids present in onion that help keep the blood glucose level in order and also promote good health of human body.

It was evident that, crude Allium cepa produced hypoglycemic effects, thus it could be used as a dietary supplement in management of type 1 and/or type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Study published in Prev. Nutr. Food Sci. 2013;18(3):169-174 suggests that ripe onion juice may be able to normalize the blood glucose levels when doses are continuous for long periods.

In another study shows that the levels of total serum cholesterol, total serum lipids and blood glucose levels which were actually raised in alloxan diabetic rats can be lowered by onions aqueous extracts (Journal of Medicinal Plants Research Vol. 5(7), pp. 1134-1139, 4 April, 2011).

Health benefit of celery: anti-diabetogenic

Celery has some general anti-diabetogenic affects as well as being helpful for people with high blood pressure.  The minerals contained inj celery juice make the body’s use calcium more effective, balancing the blood’s pH.

Several studies have indicated that celery seed reduces blood sugar levels, an important part of managing diabetes.

A cup of celery contains about 29 micrograms of vitamin K.  Recent research by University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands concluded that those with the highest intake of vitamin K were nearly 20% less likely to develop type II diabetes compared with those who had the lowest intake of the vitamin (Diabetes Care. 2010 Aug;33(8):1699-705).

The celery anti-diabetic benefits can also might attributed to its unique ability to fight Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), a bacterium that leads to a near three-fold increase in the risk of type II diabetes (Diabetes Care. 2012 Mar;35(3):520-5).

Vegetable juice can reduce blood sugar levels

Diabetes is a lifelong, chronic disease that is caused by too little insulin or a resistance to insulin.

Brussels Sprout Juice

Technically brussels sprout is known as Brassica oleracea gemmifer De candolle. I is a green plant that bears small heads or sprouts.
